The Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar corridor received a major boost to its road infrastructure on Sunday with Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel inaugurating a new cable-stayed flyover at Bhat Char Rasta.
Built at a cost of ₹175 crore, the 1.48-km-long flyover is designed to ease traffic congestion and improve connectivity between Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport.
The project has been jointly funded by the Gujarat government and the Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (AUDA). Officials expect it to benefit nearly two lakh commuters who pass through the busy Bhat Circle every day, where heavy traffic jams are a regular occurrence.
To further streamline traffic movement, six dedicated service roads have also been constructed. These roads will provide smoother access for vehicles travelling towards the S.P. Ring Road, as well as the Vadodara and Surat highways.
The state government also announced the expansion of the existing six-lane bridge over the Narmada Main Canal between Koba Circle and Bhat Circle. The ₹48-crore project will widen the bridge to 12 lanes by adding three parallel lanes on either side to meet the growing traffic demand along the rapidly developing Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar corridor.
Together, the flyover and bridge expansion projects are expected to reduce travel time, improve traffic flow and strengthen connectivity between Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar.
