The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation’s (AMC) initiative to reduce traffic congestion by opening private parking spaces for public use has received its first major response. Caspia Hotel in the Sola area has joined the scheme by offering its parking facility free of charge under AMC’s Comprehensive Policy 2026 for Traffic, Parking, Road Safety and Cattle Management.
The hotel has made available around 8,300 square metres of parking space across two basement levels, with capacity for nearly 150 cars and 50 two-wheelers. In return, it is expected to receive property tax relief of about ₹26 lakh annually under the civic body’s policy.
AMC introduced the scheme to encourage commercial establishments to open their unused parking facilities to the public at no cost. The move is aimed at reducing illegal roadside parking, easing traffic congestion and improving traffic flow across the city.
The policy is open to shopping malls, hotels, theatres, multiplexes, mini-plexes, hospitals, party plots, community halls, gymnasiums, educational institutions, social organisations and other non-residential commercial properties located along National Highways, Ring Roads and State Highways.
To qualify for the tax concession, participating establishments must provide parking completely free of charge. Properties that collect parking fees are not eligible for the benefit. Interested owners can apply online through the Parking Availability and Sharing Consent Form available on AMC’s website.
Under the scheme, participating establishments must also deploy parking attendants, record vehicle entries through the AMDAPARK application, install signboards indicating parking availability and properly mark parking bays.
AMC said Caspia Hotel’s participation is expected to encourage more commercial establishments to join the initiative, creating additional parking spaces, reducing roadside congestion and strengthening traffic management while offering property tax benefits to participating property owners.
