The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has proposed constructing a 1.5-km flyover from Sarkhej Circle to the New Ring Road to ease traffic congestion in the city’s south-western corridor. The proposed four-lane flyover will cross the Ahmedabad–Botad railway line at Level Crossing-28 before connecting with the existing New Ring Road flyover.
The elevated corridor will also pass over key traffic junctions, including the Sarkhej Circle–Sanand–Sarkhej Road intersection, LJ Circle and the Sanand Junction area. Once completed, the project is expected to improve traffic movement along the SG Highway and the New Ring Road, reducing congestion at some of the city’s busiest intersections.
The proposed flyover is part of AMC’s broader infrastructure development plan aimed at upgrading Ahmedabad ahead of its proposed bid to host the Commonwealth Games. The civic body is focusing on easing traffic bottlenecks, improving parking infrastructure and removing encroachments through the construction of new flyovers, railway overbridges and underpasses.
The AMC plans to seek financial assistance for the project from the Gujarat Urban Development Mission Fund.
