In a significant boost for rail connectivity in central Ahmedabad, the Railway Board has approved the shifting of the terminal point of three pairs of express trains from Sabarmati Railway Station to Gandhigram Railway Station.
With the change, the trains will now originate from and terminate at Gandhigram station and will also halt at Chandkheda Road station during their journey.
As per an order issued by the Railway Board on June 19, the following trains will have their terminals shifted from Sabarmati to Gandhigram:
- 14821/14822 Jodhpur–Sabarmati Express
- 12547/12548 Agra Cantt–Sabarmati Express
- 22547/22548 Gwalior–Sabarmati Express
Western Railway has been instructed to implement the change from a suitable date and make the necessary operational arrangements.
The Railway Board has also directed Western Railway to widely publicise the revised train operations and, if required, run the initial services as special trains.
The move is expected to benefit passengers travelling to and from Ahmedabad’s central areas, as Gandhigram Railway Station is located within the city and offers better connectivity through local public transport networks.
Officials believe the shift will improve passenger convenience and provide easier access to long-distance rail services for commuters residing in and around central Ahmedabad.
