Gujarat Science City Crosses 1.43 Crore Visitors, Continues Major Expansion

Gujarat Science City in Ahmedabad has crossed a major milestone, welcoming more than 1.43 crore visitors by May 2026. Since its establishment in 1999, the centre has grown into one of India’s largest hubs for science education and interactive learning.

Developed to promote scientific awareness and hands-on learning, Science City has expanded significantly over the years. More than 1.43 crore students, families and science enthusiasts have visited the facility between 2006 and May 2026.

The campus now features several world-class attractions. The Aquatic Gallery houses over 11,600 fish from 188 species, including sharks, and features a 28-metre-long shark tunnel, marine ecosystem zones, African penguins and a 5D theatre.

The Astronomy and Space Science Gallery includes a modern planetarium, telescope observation facilities and over 150 exhibits related to space and the universe. The Robotics Gallery showcases more than 200 robots, virtual reality experiences and a robotic café where robots prepare and serve food.

Other attractions include the Planet Earth Gallery, which focuses on natural disasters, biodiversity, evolution and human anatomy, along with a 4D theatre and a simulated coal mine experience.

Spread across 20 acres, the Nature Park offers walking tracks, a butterfly garden, open gym facilities, yoga zones and life-sized sculptures of extinct animals. The Energy Education Park and Life Science Park promote awareness about conservation, ecosystems and biological sciences.

Science City also features an IMAX 3D theatre, a multimedia musical fountain show, Vigyan Bhavan, an open-air theatre, the Nobel Dome exhibition centre, and a children’s activity centre with science-based interactive exhibits and rides.

The Hall of Science allows visitors to conduct experiments related to light, sound and motion, while the Hall of Space offers an immersive “Mission to Mars” experience.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Gujarat Science City in 2017 and again in 2023, reviewing its development and future plans. The state government has now announced new projects, including an Aviation and Defence Gallery and a Human and Biological Science Gallery, which will feature advanced interactive displays and emerging technologies.

Officials say the continued expansion of Science City reflects Gujarat’s commitment to promoting innovation, scientific thinking and experiential learning for students and the general public.

Visitors and experts have praised the facility for making science engaging and accessible. Many describe it as one of India’s most impressive educational and family destinations, offering a unique blend of learning, technology and entertainment.
