In a major initiative to improve food safety and hygiene standards, Ahmedabad’s civic authorities have completed QR code-based registration for more than 8,700 street food vendors across the city.
The digital system enables authorities to monitor vendors in real time, including details such as business locations and compliance with hygiene norms. Customers can scan the QR code displayed at registered stalls to access information about the vendor and submit feedback and ratings regarding cleanliness and food safety standards.
Officials said the transparent mechanism is designed to empower consumers while encouraging vendors to maintain better hygiene practices and service quality.
The civic body has urged all unregistered street food vendors to complete the registration process at the earliest. Vendors can register by scanning the official QR code and are required to prominently display the issued code at their stalls for easy verification by customers and authorities.
The initiative is expected to strengthen Ahmedabad’s street food sector by making it cleaner, safer and more accountable. Authorities believe that active public participation through ratings and feedback will play a key role in maintaining high standards of hygiene and food safety.
The QR code registration drive reflects the city’s efforts to adopt technology-driven governance and enhance public health measures in one of India’s most vibrant street food destinations.
