The Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation (GSRTC) has issued a stern warning to its employees against using mobile phones to make reels, videos or photographs while on duty, stressing that passenger safety remains its top priority. The corporation has also cautioned that strict disciplinary action will be taken against those found violating the directive.
In a circular issued from its central office in Ranip, GSRTC instructed all divisional directors across the state to ensure compliance with the guidelines among employees.
The move follows concerns over instances of drivers allegedly using mobile phones while operating buses, leading to passenger complaints and safety concerns.
According to the circular issued by the Chief Transport and Commercial Manager, employees had previously been directed not to use mobile phones while driving or performing official duties. However, reports indicate that some staff members continue to create reels, capture photographs and upload content on social media while on duty.
The corporation stated that such activities distract employees from their responsibilities and may compromise passenger safety. It also noted that content shared on social media can negatively affect the image of the organisation and invite public criticism.
GSRTC has directed all its divisions, including Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Rajkot, Surat, Bhavnagar, Bhuj, Jamnagar, Junagadh, Mehsana and Palanpur, to immediately communicate the instructions to employees and ensure strict adherence to the rules.
