A major fire broke out on Wednesday afternoon in a slum settlement located near the metro corridor along the main road connecting Vishala Circle and Narol in Ahmedabad, triggering panic among residents and a large-scale firefighting operation.
The blaze spread rapidly through the densely populated settlement, engulfing dozens of huts within a short span of time. According to preliminary reports, around 200 huts occupied by labourers and economically weaker families are situated in the area.
More than 60 huts were reportedly destroyed in the fire as flames swept through the settlement. The presence of highly combustible materials, including bamboo structures, plastic sheets and household belongings, accelerated the spread of the blaze and complicated firefighting efforts.
Officials fear that a significant amount of personal property and household goods stored inside the huts may have been lost in the incident.
Residents alerted the fire department immediately after noticing the fire. In response, eight fire tenders along with water tankers were deployed to the site to contain the flames and prevent the fire from spreading further.
Firefighters worked to bring the situation under control, while authorities began assessing the extent of the damage.
The exact cause of the fire remains unknown and an investigation is expected to be conducted to determine the circumstances that led to the incident.
