Amdavad Municipal Commissioner Banchha Nidhi Pani on Monday reviewed the progress of the under-construction four-lane railway overbridge (ROB) at Makarba and directed officials to accelerate the work while maintaining quality standards to ensure completion by July 31.
During the site inspection, the commissioner also instructed officials to implement effective traffic management measures around the construction zone to minimise inconvenience to daily commuters.
The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) recently achieved a major milestone in the project with the successful launching of 12 steel composite girders. Once completed, the overbridge is expected to significantly improve connectivity between Makarba, Vejalpur Corporate Road and SG Highway, while reducing traffic congestion caused by the existing railway crossing.
The project is being executed at a cost of ₹70.7 crore, lower than the original estimate of ₹87.3 crore. It involves the construction of a 636.9-metre-long, four-lane railway overbridge on a 40-metre-wide road connecting Torrent Power Makarba in Vejalpur with Corporate Road and SG Highway.
According to AMC officials, the bridge will have a 15.5-metre-wide carriageway within an overall width of 16.4 metres and is expected to provide smoother and faster movement for motorists in the rapidly developing western part of the city.
