The newly elected leadership of the Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) held its first weekly review meeting on Thursday, focusing on key civic issues such as monsoon preparedness, road maintenance and water contamination.
Standing Committee Chairman Kamlesh Patel instructed officials to ensure that all pothole repair work is completed at least one week before the onset of the monsoon. He also directed departments to refrain from carrying out fresh road digging after June 15 to help maintain road conditions during the rainy season.
To improve traffic management and emergency response operations, the AMC has approved the hiring of a crane for a period of six months at a cost of ₹1.25 crore. The civic body believes the move will help clear road obstructions more efficiently and provide quicker assistance during emergencies.
Patel also reviewed the recent incident of contaminated water supply reported in the Ghatlodia area. Assuring residents that preventive measures are being strengthened, he said the AMC would increase surveillance in sensitive and high-risk zones across the city to prevent similar incidents in the future.
He stressed the need for stricter monitoring of the water distribution network and faster response mechanisms to ensure a safe and uninterrupted supply of drinking water to citizens.
