Gujarat Introduces Universal Affidavit Format for Statewide Use

In a move aimed at simplifying administrative procedures, the Gujarat Law Department has introduced a single ‘Universal Affidavit’ format that will be accepted across the state.

The standardized affidavit is intended to reduce paperwork, streamline documentation requirements, and make government services more transparent and citizen-friendly.

As per the official notification, the Universal Affidavit will be mandatorily accepted by all government offices, service centres, and authorities operating at the district, taluka, rural, and urban levels.

The affidavit will also be integrated with the Digital Gujarat Portal and Jan Seva Kendras, enabling applicants to submit documents online with greater ease and convenience.

The state government has clarified that the new format will not replace self-declarations for services where affidavits are not legally required. In such cases, the existing self-declaration mechanism prescribed under the General Administration Department’s resolution will continue to remain in force.

Prepared in both Gujarati and English, the affidavit format has been designed to ensure ease of understanding and accessibility for citizens across the state.

Officials said the initiative is expected to particularly benefit rural residents and regular users of government services by bringing uniformity to affidavit procedures and reducing procedural hurdles.
