Anjana Om Kashyap Sparks Row, Calls YouTube Educators ‘Fraud’; Khan Sir Hits Back With Sharp Remark

Senior television journalist Anjana Om Kashyap has found herself at the centre of a major controversy after making harsh remarks about online educators during a recent live debate. The veteran news anchor, a familiar face on Indian television, sparked outrage after referring to YouTube teachers as “do kaudi ke” and alleging that many online educators were more interested in gaining views and earning money than providing quality education.

During the debate, Anjana criticised the growing influence of online teaching platforms, claiming that several YouTube educators lacked credibility and were misleading students through ineffective teaching methods. She argued that the rise of such educators had contributed to a decline in focus on quality education, with students increasingly being pushed towards coaching classes. Her comments, delivered in a strongly worded manner, quickly went viral on social media and triggered widespread reactions.

The remarks drew sharp criticism from several prominent online educators. Abhinay Sharma, popularly known as Abhinay Sir and founder of the Abhinay Maths channel, questioned Anjana’s claims and highlighted the role YouTube educators have played in helping millions of aspirants prepare for competitive examinations such as JEE, NEET, SSC and UPSC. He also pointed out that for students in smaller towns and rural areas, online education often serves as the only affordable and accessible option for quality learning.

Suman Mam of Ocean Gurukul also responded to the controversy, defending the contribution of online teachers. She noted that many educators regularly conduct free classes for students who cannot afford expensive coaching institutes. Criticising the anchor’s remarks, she said the focus should be on pressing issues affecting students, including examination paper leaks and rising unemployment, rather than discrediting teachers working to expand educational access.

Among the most notable reactions came from Patna-based educator Khan Sir, one of the country’s most followed online teachers. Responding to the criticism, he challenged the notion that educators “know nothing” and questioned why those making such claims do not attempt to teach students themselves. Referring to the term “do kaudi ke” used during the debate, Khan Sir strongly defended the teaching community and its contribution to student success across the country.

The controversy also prompted reactions from students, many of whom shared personal stories of how online educators helped them clear competitive examinations. Students from states such as Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Jharkhand argued that digital learning platforms have become a lifeline in regions where access to quality offline education remains limited.

Several students also recalled the crucial role played by YouTube educators during the COVID-19 pandemic, when schools, colleges and coaching institutes remained closed for extended periods. For many, the remarks were seen as dismissive of teachers who had provided free and affordable educational support during one of the most challenging periods in recent history, further intensifying the debate over the growing influence of online education in India.
