Ahmedabad City Police carried out a large-scale operation against IPL final ticket black-marketing and illegal betting activities during the Tata IPL 2026 final between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday. The action led to multiple arrests and the seizure of match tickets, cash, mobile phones, and electronic devices from different parts of the city.
Police stations across Ahmedabad registered separate cases after acting on intelligence inputs about individuals allegedly selling IPL final tickets at prices far above their face value.
Youth Arrested in Ranip
Vadaj Police arrested a 21-year-old man, Sahil Rafiqbhai Qureshi, near D-Mart in Ranip on Sunday evening. Acting on a tip-off, officers allegedly found him attempting to sell four IPL final tickets at inflated rates.
According to police, the tickets had a printed value of ₹2,500 each, but the accused was allegedly offering them for ₹5,000 per ticket. Four tickets and a mobile phone were seized, and a case was registered under the Gujarat Police Act.
Ticket Seller Held Near Riverfront
In a separate operation, Riverfront West Police arrested 29-year-old Sunil Rameshbhai Thakor near the open grounds behind the National Institute of Design (NID).
Police alleged that he was selling tickets priced at ₹2,500 for amounts ranging between ₹5,000 and ₹6,000. One ticket was recovered and legal action was initiated under the Gujarat Police Act and relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Major Seizure by Sabarmati Police
Sabarmati Police made one of the biggest seizures during the crackdown after arresting two Rajasthan natives residing in Shahibaug. The accused, identified as Naveen Kumar Jain, 29, and Sanjay Bhansali, 30, were allegedly involved in purchasing IPL final tickets online and reselling them at higher rates.
During the raid, police seized five IPL final tickets, ₹2.88 lakh in cash, five mobile phones, and an Apple MacBook Air laptop. The total value of the seized items was estimated at around ₹3.58 lakh.
Investigators suspect the electronic devices may contain records of online ticket transactions and are examining them as part of the ongoing probe.
Three Youths Caught in Naranpura
Naranpura Police also registered a case against three young men who were allegedly found selling IPL final tickets near a garden close to Pragatinagar crossroads.
The accused were identified as Ayush Goreshbhai, 20, Devansh Bhatt, 19, and Jeet Shah, 21. Police claimed they possessed several tickets and intended to sell them for around ₹6,000 each, well above the printed price.
During questioning, the trio allegedly told investigators that the tickets had been supplied by a man identified as Jaideep Darbar from Ramnagar in Sabarmati. Police said efforts are underway to locate and apprehend him.
A total of 10 tickets were seized in the Naranpura case, and further investigations are in progress.
