A sewage overflow problem has emerged at Meher Homes in Shela, West Ahmedabad, ahead of the monsoon season. Residents have alleged that sewage water has inundated internal roads and entered the society’s parking area, creating unhygienic conditions and causing breathing difficulties due to the foul smell.
While sewage overflow incidents are commonly reported during the monsoon, particularly in eastern parts of Ahmedabad, a similar situation has now surfaced in one of West Ahmedabad’s prominent residential areas even before the rains have begun.
According to residents, contaminated water has been accumulating on roads within Meher Homes-4 for the past two days. The situation worsened after sewage water entered the parking area, affecting daily movement and creating sanitation concerns.
Residents claimed that the stagnant sewage water has damaged several vehicles parked in the society. They also alleged that the strong stench from the wastewater has led to breathing discomfort and made it difficult for people to move around the premises.
Despite repeated complaints, residents alleged that the authorities have failed to take effective action to resolve the issue. They also expressed concerns that stagnant sewage water could become a breeding ground for mosquitoes and other insects, increasing the risk of health problems in the area.
Residents warned that if the problem is not addressed immediately, they may be compelled to launch protests or take other measures to press for a solution.
