The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has imposed a fine of ₹25,000 on a Chhaswala outlet located on IIM Road in Ahmedabad after an insect was allegedly found in a kaju-anjeer milkshake sold at the store.
According to AMC officials, the issue came to light after a video of the incident went viral on social media. The customer had reportedly purchased the packaged milkshake from the outlet on May 15. After noticing the insect inside the drink, the customer raised concerns about the product’s quality and hygiene standards.
Following the viral video, the AMC food department launched an inspection at the outlet. In-charge Additional Health Officer Dr Tejas Shah said the civic body imposed the penalty after completing the inspection.
Officials added that Chhaswala’s production unit is located in Daskroi taluka of Ahmedabad district, which does not fall under AMC’s jurisdiction.The matter has therefore been forwarded to the district food department for further investigation and necessary action at the manufacturing unit.
Dr Shah also said that incidents of food contamination and adulteration are increasing due to negligence by manufacturers and vendors. He urged consumers to report such complaints to the food department for prompt action.
