Around 13,651 students from Gujarat are set to appear for the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) scheduled from May 11 to 31 for admission to undergraduate courses in central, state, deemed, and private universities across the country.
Despite CUET being introduced as a nationwide standardised admission system, its adoption in Gujarat remains limited. This year, only four universities and institutions from the state are accepting admissions through CUET. These include Gujarat Vidyapith, Teachers’ University, and institutions such as National Forensic Sciences University.
The examination will be conducted by the National Testing Agency in computer-based mode. Nationwide, nearly 15.68 lakh students have registered, making CUET one of the world’s largest entrance examinations. The test will be conducted in 35 shifts, as candidates are allowed to choose up to five subjects.
Among all states, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Delhi together recorded the highest number of registrations, with a combined total of 6.74 lakh students. Bihar and Delhi individually registered around 1.44 lakh candidates each. The registration process remained open from January 3 to 30.
Students were allowed to choose their preferred examination cities. According to officials, 96.6% of candidates were allotted their preferred cities, while 79% received their first-choice centres. However, around 3.4% of students did not get their preferred cities. The examination will be conducted across 15 cities.
Following past controversies in exams like JEE regarding religious symbols, the NTA has permitted candidates to wear certain religious items, including kalava (sacred thread), during the examination.
CUET currently serves as the common entrance gateway for admissions to 49 central universities, 40 state universities, 27 deemed universities, 120 private universities, and several other higher education institutions across India, including NFSU.
