Ahmedabad is continuing to witness major infrastructure development, with 15 bridge projects currently under construction in different parts of the city. Among the key projects nearing completion are the Vadaj flyover and the iconic Ellis Bridge.
At the Vadaj junction, authorities are carrying out work to remove a section of the flyover towards the Income Tax area. The civic body has set a target to complete the project by the end of June. The four-lane flyover, sanctioned in 2023 at a cost of more than Rs 107 crore, faced delays, prompting officials to direct the contractor to speed up the construction work.
Meanwhile, plans for a two-lane underpass between Dadhichi Bridge and Akhbarnagar have been temporarily stalled due to complications related to Subhash Bridge.
On the other hand, restoration work on the historic Ellis Bridge is progressing steadily and is expected to be completed by August-end. Once restored, the bridge will be transformed into a pedestrian-only zone with seating spaces and greenery for visitors. The Rs 26.78 crore restoration contract has been awarded to Rajkamal Builders Infrastructure Pvt Ltd.
Officials said eight more flyovers and railway overbridges are expected to become operational in Ahmedabad by the end of 2026, a move aimed at improving connectivity and reducing traffic congestion in the city.
