A woman contacted the Abhayam women’s helpline after catching her husband, a school principal, with a former colleague.
The couple was counselled, and the man agreed to end the relationship or face consequences.In her complaint, the woman said she has been married for 16 years and has a 13-year-old child. She alleged that her husband had been in a relationship with the teacher for the past nine years.
According to counsellors, the teacher was earlier married but later got divorced, reportedly to continue the relationship, and now lives with her daughter. The man’s family was aware of the affair and supported the complainant.
The woman had earlier reported the matter to the education committee, after which the teacher was transferred to another school. However, she approached the helpline after finding the woman at her home again.
During counselling, the man admitted he had tried but failed to end the relationship. He later agreed to stop it, acknowledging that it was unfair to both his wife and the other woman.
