Flight operations at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport will be suspended for six hours on May 7 as both runways undergo scheduled pre-monsoon maintenance.
The runways, 09/27 and 14/32, will remain closed from 11 am to 5 pm, temporarily affecting flight schedules at one of India’s busiest airports.
Airport operator Mumbai International Airport Limited, owned by the Adani Group, said the yearly maintenance is necessary to ensure the safety and durability of airport infrastructure spread across 1,033 acres.
The work will include a detailed inspection of runway surfaces to check for wear and tear, along with preventive steps to ensure safe take-offs and landings during the monsoon season.
The operator said modern equipment and proper planning will be used to complete the work within the six-hour window.
It also added that coordination with airlines and other stakeholders began six months ago to help reschedule flights and reduce inconvenience.
Passengers travelling on May 7 are advised to check with their airlines for updated timings and plan accordingly.
The maintenance is part of the airport’s annual monsoon preparedness plan, which includes routine checks and preventive measures to handle seasonal challenges.
