The summer heat in Gujarat isn’t letting up, and it’s hitting hard. On Sunday, Ahmedabad became the hottest city in the state, reaching a blistering 44.8°C. This marks a significant jump, with average maximum temperatures in the city soaring by 3.2°C over normal levels.
This temperature matches Ahmedabad’s highest recorded for April in the last fifteen years. The last time it peaked at 44.8°C was on April 30, 2025. Over the past decade and a half, only two other years—2022 and 2025—saw temperatures rise above this threshold in April.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts that the sweltering conditions aren’t going away anytime soon. They predict that mercury levels will hover around 44°C for at least three more days. Monday could even see temperatures rising to 45°C. After that brief reprieve, residents can expect highs near 43°C for about five days.
Cities across Gujarat are grappling with similar heat challenges. Amreli recorded 44.5°C, Rajkot reached 44.4°C, and Gandhinagar hit 44.2°C. Bhuj wasn’t far behind at < strong >43.8 °C , while Vadodara logged a high of < strong >43.0 °C .
The coastal areas fared slightly better; Porbandar saw only < strong >39 .1 °C , Naliya hit < strong >38 .0 °C , Kandla tracked at < strong >38 .5 °C , and Valsad registered just < strong >37 .0 °C
The extreme temperatures have prompted officials to urge residents to take precautions: stay hydrated and avoid long sun exposure as Gujarat braces for an extended period of intense summer heat.
