A fire broke out Monday at a gym located in the Shangrila-2 Arcade near Shyamal Crossroads in Ahmedabad, leading to a significant firefighting and rescue operation. The blaze reportedly started from an air conditioning unit within the gym and escalated quickly, spreading to the fourth floor of the commercial complex.
Thick smoke filled the building, causing panic among occupants. Fire department officials acted swiftly; they launched an immediate rescue mission after reports emerged of people trapped on upper floors. Around 50 individuals were successfully evacuated by firefighters.
The fire also affected the ground-floor branch of Kotak Mahindra Bank, which is situated within the arcade. Emergency responders dispatched a total of 35 firefighting vehicles to tackle the flames, including several senior fire officials who oversaw operations.
So far, there haven’t been any confirmed fatalities, but authorities have not yet determined how many people may have sustained injuries during the incident. Multiple vehicles parked in the premises suffered extensive damage as well.
As emergency services battled thick smoke and flames, crowds gathered outside in disbelief. Authorities plan to conduct a thorough investigation into what caused this disaster once cooling efforts are completed.
