Authorities have released the first image of a man suspected of attempting to shoot at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. The photo, capturing him pinned down by law enforcement near the stairs of the Washington Hilton, raises serious safety concerns.
The suspect has been identified as Cole Tomas Allen, a 31-year-old resident of Torrance, California. Reports indicate that he was apprehended after charging a security checkpoint armed with multiple weapons.
In a statement following the incident, President Trump addressed reporters and confirmed that an officer had been shot during the confrontation but was saved by his bulletproof vest. “A man charged a security checkpoint armed with multiple weapons,” Trump noted. “He was taken down by some very brave members of Secret Service… One officer was shot, but saved… the vest did the job.”
Describing the scene in further detail, Trump assured reporters that he had spoken directly with the officer who is now recovering well from his injuries. The president also mentioned plans to hold another event within 30 days, promising it would be “bigger and better.”
