The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has set the registration and fee submission timeline for the upcoming Second Board Examination in 2026. This year marks the introduction of a two-attempt format for Class 10 board exams, which is expected to give students more opportunities to excel.
The registration window opened on April 16 and will close on April 20. Schools are required to submit their list of candidates during this same period. For those who miss this initial deadline, a late-fee window will be available from April 21 to April 22.
According to CBSE, students who missed registering previously can still submit their names and pay the required fees. Those already registered have options too—they can finalize payments or choose to withdraw from the examination altogether.
“All passed and eligible students may improve their performance in any three subjects,” CBSE noted, specifically mentioning Science, Mathematics, Social Science, and Languages as options. Additionally, students involved in sports approved by the Board are also allowed to enter.
As for compartment students? They’ll be able to take exams under the same or improvement categories; however, those falling into the Essential Repeat (ER) category won’t be permitted. Schools remain accountable for submitting lists of candidates (LOCs), and Children With Special Needs will continue receiving necessary facilities without accepting new registrations.
It’s important for students that if they register but don’t appear for the exam, their main exam results will stand as final. The syllabus for this second examination will match that of the main exam held in 2026. Once LOC submissions close, no changes or corrections will be entertained.
