Ahmedabad is bracing for some unexpected weather as the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts light to moderate rain from April 19 to April 21. This comes even as much of Gujarat faces sweltering heat, with temperatures projected to soar past 40°C.
The IMD’s latest bulletin indicates isolated thundershowers may occur in select districts, particularly in central and southern regions, including parts of Saurashtra. On April 19, areas like Chhota Udepur, Dahod, and Mahisagar could experience rainfall, alongside Amreli and Bhavnagar.
Rainfall activity isn’t expected to stop there. On April 20, Tapi and Dang may see similar weather patterns emerge, with Amreli and Bhavnagar experiencing more showers. The trend continues on April 21 as Bharuch and Surat are also likely to receive light rain.
However, most of Gujarat will remain dry during this period. After April 22, an extended stretch of dry conditions is anticipated across the state and neighboring Union Territories like Diu and Daman.
Despite these isolated showers offering a brief respite from the heat, no significant relief is expected over the next week. Maximum temperatures are set to hover around or exceed the scorching 40°C mark in various pockets throughout Gujarat.
In Ahmedabad specifically, residents can expect partly cloudy skies until early morning on April 19 with temperatures nearing 42°C. This unusual weather pattern is largely due to a western disturbance that has established itself as a trough in mid-tropospheric westerlies along with a cyclonic circulation near northern Pakistan.
