A passenger travelling on the Vande Bharat Express from Ahmedabad to Mumbai allegedly found an insect in the food served onboard.Sharing the incident on X, the passenger said at least two such cases were reported in his coach and posted photos of the contaminated meals.
Following the complaint, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) took swift action, imposing a ₹10 lakh fine on the vendor.“Found an insect in Vande Bharat train food (Ahmedabad → Mumbai). At least two such cases in my coach—everyone stopped eating after that,” said Aditya Didwania, a Mumbai-based passenger.
He urged authorities to take strict action, alleging that the food may not be prepared as per FSSAI standards and calling for cancellation of the vendor’s licence if violations are confirmed.“Hope this doesn’t get settled through bribes,” he added.
Responding to the incident, IRCTC said the matter was taken seriously and confirmed that a ₹10 lakh penalty had been imposed.
It also issued a termination notice to the service provider, sealed the kitchen, and ordered deep cleaning and pest control.
