Residents in Surat can avail a ₹500 discount on new domestic piped natural gas (PNG) connections if they apply before June 30 in areas with existing pipeline infrastructure.
The announcement was made during a review meeting chaired by Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (GSPC) Managing Director Avantika Singh at Jilla Seva Sadan.
Officials confirmed that adequate stocks of essential commodities such as petrol, diesel, gas, and fertilizers are currently available, with measures in place to ensure uninterrupted supply in the coming months.Amid ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, authorities said the district administration and municipal bodies are working together to maintain smooth distribution of essential supplies across Surat.
Surat currently has around 15.20 lakh domestic PNG connections, and the government is coordinating closely with oil and gas companies to ensure continuous supply.To boost adoption, the ₹500 discount for new domestic PNG connections will be credited to consumers’ bills after installation.
Officials also highlighted that the central government is prioritising the expansion of PNG connections, especially for households and institutions like schools and hospitals.In Surat district, 1,805 applications have been received for commercial PNG connections from various institutions, including hospitals, railway canteens, hotels, and religious places. Of these, applications from 39 hospitals and 16 railway canteens have already been approved.
Authorities are also focusing on providing PNG connections to industrial units, community kitchens, and socio-religious institutions.Additionally, oil companies such as HPCL, BPCL, and IOCL have started supplying smaller 5 kg and 3 kg gas cylinders.
The approval process for PNG connections has also been simplified, reducing the timeline from 45 days to just 7 days.
