Online registration for admissions under the Right to Education (RTE) Act for the 2026–27 academic year will begin on April 4 and continue until April 17. The process offers Class 1 admission opportunities to children from economically weaker and middle-class families.
This year, over 84,000 seats are available in private schools across Gujarat, compared to around 94,000 seats last year.
As per RTE rules, 25% of seats in private schools are reserved for students from disadvantaged backgrounds, based on the previous year’s total admissions.
Officials from the Directorate of Primary Education said parents were given enough time to gather required documents to ensure a smooth application process.
Out of the total seats, more than 41,000 are in Gujarati-medium schools, 40,262 in English-medium, 2,235 in Hindi-medium, and 320 in other mediums.
A key change this year allows parents to select not just the school but also the shift—morning or afternoon—which was not available earlier. The priority criteria have also been revised, with changes in how preference is given among eligible categories.
