In a shocking incident, a businessman was allegedly robbed of gold jewellery worth ₹8.95 lakh after meeting a woman through the Tinder.
The victim, a land and stock broker from Shahpore, had connected with a woman who identified herself as Sarika Gupta. She claimed to be a betel nut trader and proposed a meeting to discuss business.
She invited him to a hotel in the Pal area, where she had booked a room. After he arrived, she offered him lunch, saying other traders would join later.
During the meeting, she asked him to step into the bathroom on the pretext of attending a family video call. Meanwhile, she allegedly mixed an intoxicating substance into the food.
After eating, the businessman lost consciousness. The accused then stole a gold chain and two rings worth ₹8.95 lakh and left the hotel overnight.
The victim regained consciousness nearly 14 hours later and realized he had been robbed. When he tried to contact the woman, her phone was switched off.He later filed a complaint at Pal police station. Police have registered a case of cheating and robbery and have started an investigation.
