A state-of-the-art 858-bed Rain Basera facility has been developed at the Civil Hospital campus in Asarwa at an estimated cost of Rs.60 crore to provide accommodation for relatives of patients arriving for treatment from across Gujarat and other states.

Civil Hospital, one of the largest government hospitals in Asia, caters to patients from across the country and abroad for complex surgeries and specialised care. Due to the lack of affordable lodging nearby, many families were forced to stay on footpaths or in expensive lodges. The newly constructed multi-storey Rain Basera aims to offer safe and affordable accommodation for patient attendants.
The building comprises a basement, ground floor, and eight upper floors, with a total built-up area of around 24,436 square metres. It features dormitories, toilets, locker rooms, a reception area, TV room, ATM, and shops for daily essentials. A canteen with seating capacity for about 280 people, along with a modern kitchen, has also been provided.

Parking facilities for 58 four-wheelers and 91 two-wheelers have been created in the basement to help reduce congestion within the hospital campus.
According to an official press release, Civil Hospital admits over one lakh patients annually, and the new facility will enable poor and middle-class families to access dignified accommodation while easing overcrowding in hospital corridors and premises.
