Panic spread across Ahmedabad on Wednesday when several schools received alarming bomb threat emails on the last day of GSEB examinations. The threats prompted immediate evacuations and extensive security checks, according to local police.
The emails, originating from an unidentified sender, claimed explosives were planted within school premises and warned of potential casualties among students and parents. Schools targeted included Maharaja Agrasen School, Calorx Public School, and Shanti Asiatic School.
Once the threats were received, school authorities wasted no time alerting the police control room. In response, multiple teams including local police, Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS), and a dog squad rushed to investigate the campuses.
As a safety measure amidst ongoing exams—when many students were present—all classrooms were cleared and students relocated to secure areas. A senior police officer noted that while “prima facie” the threat seemed like a hoax, thorough checks were conducted to rule out any actual danger.
The Ahmedabad Cyber Crime Branch has launched an investigation into the matter and is currently tracing the IP address linked to the emails. Previously, similar threats had surfaced during events like Republic Day and budget sessions, with investigations suggesting foreign servers may have played a role.
In light of these incidents, Police Commissioner urged parents not to panic or give in to rumors. He reassured them that necessary security measures are in place so that examinations can proceed without interruption. So far, no suspicious objects have been discovered.
Additionally, Zydus School for Excellence announced delays for its Class 10 ICSE exams due to these unsettling events.
