Vadodara’s Municipal Corporation is taking a bold step to tackle the sweltering heat. Starting March 16, 2026, key traffic signals in the city will be switched off from noon until 4:00 PM. This decision comes as temperatures soar and a heatwave grips the region.
The Municipal Commissioner made this call after weighing the struggles faced by commuters caught in the blistering sun at traffic lights. “We want to ease the burden on drivers and two-wheeler riders during these extreme conditions,” officials noted.
During those hours, selected crossroad signals will remain inactive, allowing vehicles to flow more freely and minimizing wait times at intersections. Traffic personnel will be stationed at crucial junctions, ensuring that everything runs smoothly despite the lack of signal guidance.
This initiative aims to prevent heat-related health issues among motorists who might otherwise find themselves waiting under oppressive conditions. The VMC hopes that this temporary measure will provide some relief during peak afternoon hours when temperatures can be unbearable.
