The Gujarat government is gearing up for the annual Uttarvahini Panchkoshi Narmada Parikrama, set to take place from March 19 to April 17, 2026. This month-long pilgrimage draws thousands of devotees each year who circle the revered Narmada River, known as Mother Narmada, offering prayers and seeking blessings.
In a bid to accommodate the influx of pilgrims, authorities have allocated approximately ₹10 crore for various facilities. The Gujarat Pavitra Yatra Dham Vikas Board has committed around ₹5.41 crore toward temporary arrangements, including dome shelters equipped with cots and bedding, mobile toilets, drinking water stations, and medical units. Ambulance services will be available round-the-clock along the route.
But that’s not all—safety and hygiene are top priorities this year. Cleanliness measures include separate toilets for men and women, proper drainage systems, and continuous water supply throughout the pilgrimage period. Housekeeping teams will operate in shifts to maintain a clean environment during the entire month.
The security setup aims to handle the anticipated large crowds effectively. Police booths and watch towers will dot the route while trained personnel monitor activities across multiple shifts. High-tech measures like infrared head-count systems will assist in tracking crowd movement.
Extensive lighting provisions will illuminate the 18-km path at night with LED floodlights ensuring safety as devotees travel between ghats. Communication systems including public announcement setups and CCTV surveillance will enhance overall coordination.
Permanently established facilities costing about ₹5.07 crore are also part of this initiative at key pilgrimage sites such as Shri Madhi Devasthan and Shri Siddhatekri Ram Kund, featuring pathways, drinking water tanks, solar lights, and enhanced sanitation facilities.
