Ahmedabad is feeling the heat as temperatures soar this March. In response, the District Education Officer (DEO) has rolled out new guidelines for schools across the city.
According to a recent circular, all government, grant-in-aid, and private institutions are being urged to revise their schedules. Classes for students from Balvatika to Class 8 should now wrap up by noon. This isn’t just about convenience; it’s about keeping kids safe during these extreme conditions.
“It’s crucial that we protect our students from heat-related issues,” DEO Rohit Chaudhary said. Schools are also being asked to make sure there’s ample clean drinking water available on campuses. And teachers have a role too: they’re expected to educate students on how to stay cool and avoid sun exposure.
The guidelines extend beyond regular classes. Examination centres must also guarantee sufficient drinking water and basic amenities for all students participating in board exams.
With many areas experiencing intense heatwaves, authorities are emphasizing the importance of staying hydrated and taking precautions against overheating. Schools are advised not to hold classes outdoors during peak temperatures, ensuring that children can learn safely.
