Ahmedabad is set to get a direct link to Colombo, as FitsAir, Sri Lanka’s first private international airline, begins operations on a new route starting May 15. The service will run three times a week and aims to boost tourism between Gujarat and Sri Lanka.
The initiative comes through a partnership involving City of Dreams Sri Lanka, Cinnamon Hotels & Resorts, and Walkers Tours. This collaboration is expected to cater specifically to the increasing number of travelers from Gujarat, which has become an important market for Sri Lankan tourism.
City of Dreams Sri Lanka in central Colombo presents itself as South Asia’s first fully integrated resort, offering diverse hospitality options including stays at the luxurious Cinnamon Life and other Cinnamon properties like Cinnamon Grand and Cinnamon Lakeside.
To complement the flights, specially designed holiday packages are available for Indian tourists. Starting at ₹55,555 per person, these packages include round-trip airfare, two nights’ accommodation at Cinnamon Life with breakfast included, plus private airport transfers. Travelers can also enjoy itineraries that feature cultural experiences in Kandy or relaxing beach stays at various resorts across the island.
Kamal Munasinghe from Cinnamon Hotels noted that India continues to be a vital market for their business. He emphasized Gujarat’s growing interest in visiting Colombo as a leisure destination.
Ammar Kassim, FitsAir’s Director, highlighted Ahmedabad’s status as one of India’s lively commercial hubs. The airline has structured its flight schedule with overnight departures from Colombo for early arrivals in Ahmedabad—maximizing the travel experience by giving visitors a full day ahead.
