The Amdavad Municipal Corporation ramped up its crackdown on property tax defaulters this Saturday, sealing a whopping 5,490 properties across seven zones in Ahmedabad. This aggressive move helped recover ₹5.49 crore in outstanding property taxes.
Among the city’s zones, the West Zone saw the most action, with authorities sealing 3,167 properties and collecting ₹1.24 crore. Not far behind was the Central Zone, where areas like Meghaninagar and New Cloth Market faced closures of 405 properties, bringing in ₹1.11 crore.
In the North Zone—which includes Sumel Business Park—333 properties were sealed, leading to a recovery of ₹33 lakh. The South Zone didn’t lag either; officials sealed off 89 properties and collected ₹41 lakh in dues.
The East Zone added to the tally by sealing 633 properties across various estates and recovering ₹73 lakh from defaulters. In contrast, the North-West Zone had 382 seals put in place for a total recovery of ₹1.20 crore.
The South-West Zone also contributed significantly with 481 properties sealed and an additional recovery of ₹47 lakh.
Since February 1, the municipal authorities have targeted over 16,000 properties citywide as part of their ongoing effort to collect outstanding tax dues. To further encourage compliance, the civic body has rolled out an interest waiver scheme that’s valid until March 31.
