Keshod Airport to Establish Pilot Training Facility

Keshod Airport to Establish Pilot Training Facility

Keshod, Gujarat — The Airports Authority of India (AAI) is moving forward with plans to set up Flying Training Organizations (FTOs) at Keshod Airport, aiming to boost pilot training in the region. This initiative responds to the growing demand for pilots in the Indian aviation sector and is part of a broader strategy by the Ministry of Civil Aviation to lessen reliance on foreign flying schools.

In an announcement made March 7, 2026, AAI issued a Request for Proposal (RFP), inviting bids from interested parties. The project will operate under a Design, Build, Operate, Maintain and Transfer (DBOMT) model, allowing the winning bidder to manage the facility for 25 years before returning it entirely to AAI at no cost.

The authority has identified two plots at Keshod Airport measuring approximately 100 m × 50 m each specifically for this purpose. These sites will be dedicated to FTO activities such as aircraft parking, maintenance work, and training operations.

Successful bidders must adhere strictly to regulations set by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) while building essential infrastructure such as hangars, classrooms, and operational areas. To maintain active use of these facilities, operators are required to log at least 3,000 flying hours each year over any three consecutive years.

This development isn’t just limited to Keshod; it’s part of a larger plan that includes six other airports across western India — Dholera Airport, Kadapa Airport, Hubballi Airport, Tuticorin Airport, Kishangarh Airport, and Solapur Airport. Together they aim to enhance pilot training opportunities domestically.

Bidders who qualify based on technical and financial criteria can submit their proposals through the government’s CPP e-tender portal.
