Ahmedabad’s Vatva area saw a significant police operation recently when authorities raided an illegal drink manufacturing unit producing counterfeit Lajwab Mango Juicy Ice Dolly pouches. More than 15,000 fake drink pouches were confiscated during the bust.
The raid unfolded after Sirajbhai Advani, owner of the Lajwab brand based in Palanpur, received multiple complaints regarding substandard products being sold under his name. Concerned about the quality and authenticity of these beverages, he contacted local police.
Upon investigation, officers found a makeshift factory operating out of a godown near Navapura Maidan. The search revealed not only the replicated mango drink pouches but also filling machines valued at approximately Rs 1.80 lakh. In total, the seized goods amounted to around Rs 2.16 lakh.
Mumtaz Ahmed Ansari was arrested on-site as the alleged operator of the fake beverage production line. Authorities later learned that this operation had been running for nearly two years, generating both small and large pouch sizes and fraudulently marketing them as genuine products.
Assistant Commissioner of Police N.K. Vyas confirmed that samples from the seized drinks have been sent for testing by both the Food Safety Department and Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) to ensure safety for consumers. A case has now been registered at Vatva police station for copyright violation and cheating.
If lab results indicate any safety concerns related to public consumption, officials warned that strict measures will be implemented against those involved in this operation.
