Traffic Changes Ahead of T20 World Cup Final in Ahmedabad

Traffic Changes Ahead of T20 World Cup Final in Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad is gearing up for an exciting day on March 8, as it hosts the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Motera. But with a massive crowd expected, city officials are taking steps to manage traffic and ensure safety.

On Thursday, city police commissioner G.S. Malik announced traffic restrictions under the Gujarat Police Act of 1951. This order aims to facilitate smooth movement for VVIPs, players, and officials during the event.

The restrictions will kick in at 10 am on match day and will continue until midnight. Traffic won’t just resume after that; there’ll also be regulations in place from midnight until 2 am on March 9 to help clear out crowds efficiently.

What does this mean for fans? The stretch leading from Janpath T-junction to the stadium’s main gate will be completely closed off—no exceptions for general traffic. Only vehicles with valid passes can enter the stadium area.

For those planning to attend or simply pass through, police have provided alternative routes. Vehicles heading from Tapovan Circle can take ONGC Crossroads, Visat T-junction, Janpath T-junction, or AEC Powerhouse Crossroads toward Prabodh Raval Circle instead of getting stuck near the venue.

Similarly, if you’re coming from Krupa Residency T-junction—don’t fret! You can divert through Sharan Status Crossroads and Bhat-Koteshwar Road towards Apollo Circle.

Emergency services won’t face these restrictions. Ambulances and fire brigade vehicles can move freely throughout the area during this busy time. To maintain order amid what promises to be a substantial influx of fans, additional police personnel will be stationed at major junctions across Ahmedabad.

Is It Worth The Hassle?

Absolutely! With top teams competing for glory in one of cricket’s biggest events, attendees are sure to enjoy an unforgettable experience—despite any potential traffic issues. Yet it’s crucial (or not) that everyone stays aware of these changes ahead of time.

A Final Reminder

If you’re venturing out on March 8—or even on March 9—plan your journey accordingly. Anticipate delays and consider alternate routes if necessary as hundreds of thousands converge on Motera for what promises to be an electrifying cricket showdown.
