The Standing Committee of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has approved a series of proposals focused on urban development, renewable energy and tourism enhancement across the city.
Addressing the media, Standing Committee Chairman Devang Dani said budgetary provisions have been cleared for upgrading key tourist destinations to make them more visitor-friendly, with financial support sanctioned by the state government.
The locations identified for development include Kankaria Lake, Atal Bridge, Sabarmati Riverfront, Jagannath Temple and Swaminarayan Temple.
Candy Museum and New Rides at Kankaria
Dani noted that Kankaria Lakefront, which saw significant development during Narendra Modi’s tenure as Chief Minister, continues to draw large crowds. After the introduction of a children’s nursery last year, the committee has now approved the addition of new amusement rides within the premises.
It has also sanctioned the construction of a Candy Museum at an estimated cost of ₹10 crore. The AMC will receive 35% of the revenue generated from the project. The museum is expected to be completed within a year.
Light-and-Musical Multimedia Fountain
To further enhance the lakefront’s appeal, the committee has approved a ₹5.53 crore project for a light-and-musical multimedia fountain.
The total approved cost is ₹5,53,77,060 plus applicable GST. The project covers the supply, installation, testing and commissioning of the fountain, along with a one-year defect liability period and four years of operation and maintenance.
The fountain will combine water displays, music, lighting and visual projections, including a water screen. Four theme-based shows, each lasting 15 minutes, will be screened daily after 7 pm. The initiative aims to transform Kankaria into a vibrant entertainment hub while offering visitors an immersive experience highlighting the city’s history, culture and development.
