Gujarat to Develop ‘Namo Gaurav Parks’ Across Municipal Corporations

Rapid urbanisation in Gujarat has increased the demand for quality recreational spaces, while shrinking open areas have highlighted the need for vibrant community hubs that promote health, well-being and cultural engagement. In response, the Government of Gujarat has announced the development of theme-based ‘Namo Gaurav Parks’ in municipal corporations across the state. An allocation of ₹20 crore has been made for the project in the Gujarat Budget 2026–27 under the Urban Development and Urban Housing Department.

The proposed parks will feature sports and fitness facilities, cultural and recreational spaces, ecological elements and technology-enabled amenities. The initiative aims to enhance urban living standards while promoting climate conservation through increased green cover, biodiversity and improved microclimatic conditions.

Vision and Objectives

The Namo Gaurav Parks are envisioned as safe, inclusive and vibrant public spaces catering to citizens of all age groups. The parks will offer modern amenities for children, youth and senior citizens, with dedicated areas for physical activities to encourage fitness and mental well-being.

They will also serve as venues for cultural programmes, social gatherings and community events, strengthening social bonds. With extensive tree plantation, themed landscaping and eco-friendly infrastructure, the parks will promote environmental sustainability. Measures such as water conservation and green infrastructure are expected to boost climate resilience and significantly improve the quality of urban life.

Key Features

The parks will include children’s play zones equipped with modern play structures and sports equipment. Theme-based landscaping will feature native trees, flower beds, sculptures, artworks, butterfly gardens and herbal gardens.

Fitness and sports facilities will include open gyms, jogging and walking tracks, and courts for games such as badminton and volleyball. Recreational spaces will feature open-air amphitheatres and lawns for yoga and meditation.

Eco-friendly components will include ponds, fountains, drip irrigation systems and rainwater harvesting mechanisms. Public amenities such as drinking water facilities, clean toilets, benches, gazebos and Divyang-friendly infrastructure will be provided. Internal pathways and access roads will also be developed.

Smart features like solar-powered lighting, Wi-Fi connectivity, sensor-based lighting and digital information boards will further enhance the parks’ functionality.

The development of Namo Gaurav Parks marks a strategic urban initiative aimed at strengthening the environmental, recreational and socio-cultural fabric of Gujarat’s cities, in line with the state’s focus on inclusive and climate-resilient urban development.
