The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has introduced an incentive scheme offering up to 15% rebate to property owners who pay their property tax for the financial year 2026–27 in advance. The decision was taken at a recent meeting of the Revenue Committee to encourage timely payments and promote digital transactions.
Revenue Committee Chairman Aniruddhasinh Zala stated that the rebate will apply to advance tax payments made between April 9 and May 31.
Under the scheme, taxpayers who clear their dues within the stipulated period will receive a 12% rebate. Those opting to pay online will get an additional 1% benefit, taking the rebate to 13%. Citizens who have consistently paid their property tax online for the past three years will be eligible for the maximum rebate of 15%.
The civic body expects the initiative to strengthen early revenue collection and further boost digital payment adoption across the city.
Meanwhile, AMC’s ongoing interest waiver scheme has received a strong response. Since its launch in January, the scheme has generated collections of ₹282.81 crore as of February 25. Of this, interest amounting to approximately ₹22.99 crore has been waived, resulting in a net deposit of ₹259.82 crore into the corporation’s treasury. The interest waiver scheme will continue until March 31.
In another key decision, the Revenue Committee has approved property tax exemption for institutions working for stray animals and registered with the Charity Commissioner. The move is expected to provide significant financial relief to charitable organisations such as panjrapols and gaushalas in the city.
Through these measures, AMC aims to strike a balance between revenue growth and public welfare, while encouraging responsible tax compliance among citizens.
