Khajuraho Dance Festival Blends Culture with Adventure:From Skydiving to Heritage Marathon

The 52nd Khajuraho Dance Festival, held from February 20 to 26, 2026, witnessed an extraordinary confluence of culture, adventure, and immersive tourism experiences. Alongside spellbinding classical dance performances set against the backdrop of the UNESCO World Heritage temples, a range of curated tourism activities added a vibrant new dimension to the week-long celebration.

Organised in coordination with the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board, these activities drew enthusiastic participation from visitors across India and abroad, reinforcing Khajuraho’s emergence as a dynamic adventure and experiential tourism hub.

As part of the adventure offerings, camping experiences were organised near Panna National Park in the villages of Jhinna and Madla. Tourists enjoyed overnight stays amidst nature, experiencing the serenity of the wilderness under the open skies.

Skydiving emerged as the highlight attraction, generating immense excitement among visitors, especially youth participants. Tandem jumps from an altitude of 10,000 feet at Khajuraho Airport offered an unparalleled adrenaline rush and panoramic views of the region.

Adding to the spirit of fitness and heritage, a Heritage Marathon was organised on February 22, featuring 21 km, 10 km, and 5 km race categories. The event witnessed significant participation, with runners traversing scenic routes that celebrated Khajuraho’s historic landscape.

For those seeking deeper cultural engagement, curated experiences such as the Khajuraho Village Tour, E-Cycling Tour, and the unique “Walk with Pardhi” initiative provided meaningful interactions with local communities. These activities offered insights into rural life, indigenous traditions, and the living cultural fabric of the region. Water sports activities at Kutni Island were operational throughout the day, further enhancing the recreational appeal of the festival.

Bundeli Cuisine and Local Art Take Centre Stage

The festival venue also showcased the rich flavours of Bundelkhand through food stalls managed by Self-Help Groups, where visitors relished authentic Bundeli cuisine. The Rural Tourism and Skill Development Wing set up stalls displaying handicrafts and souvenirs, which became major attractions.

Live demonstrations of terracotta art, Bundeli painting, and bead jewellery-making offered tourists an opportunity to witness local craftsmanship firsthand and engage directly with artisans.

To ensure wide outreach and visitor engagement, display panels were installed at the information centre, brochures were distributed, and standees were placed at prominent hotels across the city.

The seamless blend of cultural grandeur, tourism innovation, and adventure activities marked this year’s Khajuraho Dance Festival as a distinctive celebration—where heritage met thrill, and tradition embraced contemporary experiences.
