The results of the first session of the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main for undergraduate engineering admissions have been declared by the National Testing Agency (NTA), with a student from Rajkot achieving a perfect 100 percentile and ranking among the top 12 candidates nationwide.
Rajkot student among national toppers
This year, a score of 291 out of 300 corresponded to the 100 percentile mark. While 14 candidates achieved the top percentile in 2024, the number stands at 12 this year.
Niyam Purohit, who scored 291 marks, emerged as the Gujarat topper. Several students from Ahmedabad secured scores of 99.99 percentile, though none featured among the national toppers.
A total of 47,610 students from Gujarat appeared for JEE Main Session 1. The examination was conducted between January 21 and 29 across 326 cities worldwide, including 15 international locations, at 658 centres and in 13 languages.
Candidate turnout and exam details
Across the country, 13,55,293 candidates registered for the exam, of whom 13,04,546 appeared — including 4,49,568 female and 8,55,085 male candidates. The NTA has released results for Paper 1 (BE/BTech), while results for other papers are awaited. JEE Main serves as a key gateway for admission to engineering programmes at institutions across India and for eligibility to appear in JEE Advanced.
Free AI-powered JEE mock tests launched
Coinciding with the result announcement, Google has introduced free AI-powered JEE mock tests through its chatbot platform Gemini. The mock tests follow the current JEE syllabus and aim to mirror the actual exam’s difficulty level. After each test, students receive detailed performance analysis highlighting strengths, weaknesses, and suggested study plans.
The feature is available without subscription and also allows students to upload notes, generate quizzes, and access concise explanations of key concepts.
Investment in AI-based education tools
With the initiative, Google has entered India’s estimated ₹1 lakh crore coaching market and announced plans to invest ₹85 crore in expanding AI-driven learning tools, targeting outreach to 7.5 crore students and 18 lakh teachers by 2027.
Google CEO Sundar Pichai has earlier emphasised the role of artificial intelligence in widening access to quality education.
The simultaneous release of JEE Main results and the rollout of free AI-based preparation tools highlights the growing integration of digital learning technologies with traditional competitive examinations for engineering aspirants.
