Panic gripped several schools in Ahmedabad and Vadodara on Monday after more than 30 educational institutions received hoax bomb threat emails, allegedly sent from overseas-based Khalistani elements. The threats triggered evacuations and extensive security checks across campuses.
According to preliminary information, 15 schools in Ahmedabad and 16 in Vadodara received emails claiming bombs had been planted on their premises. School authorities immediately informed the police, following which students were sent home as a precaution.
In Vadodara, police, bomb detection and disposal squad (BDDS) teams and dog squads conducted thorough searches at the affected schools. Hostel students at one of the institutions were also evacuated.
In Ahmedabad, similar threat emails were reported at 15 schools and one university, including Nirma University. Security agencies cleared and checked all campuses, while senior police officials closely monitored the situation.
Officials said the emails warned of explosions, causing concern among parents and staff. However, no suspicious objects had been found at the time of reporting, and authorities suspect the threats to be a hoax. Efforts are underway to trace the origin of the emails.
The incident follows similar email threats sent to schools in Ahmedabad earlier this year, indicating a recurring pattern of scare attempts targeting educational institutions in the state.
