Class 6 student mixes chemicals in classmate’s water bottle at Ahmedabad school

An alarming incident was reported at a private school in Maninagar, Ahmedabad, where a Class 6 student allegedly dropped chemical pellets into a classmate’s water bottle, raising serious safety concerns.

The incident took place at Durga School and came to light after CCTV footage was reviewed by the school management. The footage reportedly shows a student seated on the front bench taking pellets from his pocket and putting them into another student’s water bottle. The affected student is later seen drinking the water and then passing the bottle to classmates to smell after noticing an unusual odour.

School principal Ketan Shah said the matter surfaced when the student who consumed the water complained of discomfort. “The child’s condition worsened slightly after drinking the water. He was immediately taken to a hospital, where doctors confirmed that he was stable and there was no serious health impact,” Shah said.

He added that an internal inquiry was conducted after reviewing the CCTV footage. “The visuals clearly show the student placing something into the bottle. Later, when the smell is noticed, the bottle is circulated among other students,” the principal said.

Following the incident, the parents of the student accused of dropping the pellets were summoned to the school, and the child has been placed on leave pending further review. According to the school, the student’s father is involved in the kite-making business, and the pellets may have been brought from home, where such materials are commonly used. However, the school said the motive behind the act is still unclear.

“There was no previous dispute between the two students. They are friends and had studied together at another school before joining this one,” Shah added.

In the aftermath, the school has strengthened safety measures. Regular bag checks have been introduced, and students have been instructed not to bring unnecessary items to school. “If a child needs to carry any medicine, parents must now inform the school in advance and be present,” the principal said.

School authorities also stated that no communication has been received from the District Education Officer so far, and no external action has been initiated yet.
