Surat and Rajkot have featured among the world’s 10 fastest-growing cities between 2019 and 2035, according to the latest Economic Survey presented by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, based on data from Oxford Economics. Surat has secured the top global position with a projected annual growth rate of 9.17 percent, reinforcing Gujarat’s growing economic prominence.
Surat’s GDP is expected to rise sharply from $28.5 billion in 2018 to $126.8 billion by 2035, driven by diversification beyond textiles and diamonds into manufacturing and modern services. Rajkot ranks seventh globally with a projected annual growth rate of 8.33 percent, supported by strong infrastructure, connectivity and an expanding engineering base.
Notably, all of the world’s top 10 fastest-growing cities identified in the survey are from India, highlighting the country’s accelerating urban and economic expansion.
