A woman was injured after being attacked by a pet dog at a residential apartment complex in Bopal, following which her family filed a complaint with the police and informed the Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC), seeking action against the dog’s owner.
According to a written complaint submitted to the Bopal police, the incident occurred on the afternoon of January 20 at Kaveri Sangam apartments near the Shilaj crossroads on Sardar Patel Ring Road. Society resident Jashwantkumar Patel alleged that a family living in another flat keeps a pet dog that poses a threat to other residents.
Patel said his wife, Heenaben Patel, was climbing the stairs to their flat when the dog, being taken downstairs by a member of the owner’s family, suddenly attacked her. She sustained injuries and was taken for immediate medical treatment.
He further claimed that the dog has displayed aggressive behaviour on earlier occasions, creating fear among residents. As Patel was in his native village at the time of the incident, he submitted a written complaint along with a medical officer’s report and CCTV footage instead of visiting the police station in person.
The couple has demanded strict action against the dog owner and preventive steps to ensure the safety of residents, particularly children and elderly people. CCTV footage of the attack has since surfaced on social media, drawing attention and sparking debate over responsible pet ownership in housing societies.
Police officials said they have received the complaint and are examining the CCTV footage and medical documents. Further action will be taken after verification, while the AMC has also been informed to check compliance with civic and pet control norms.
