Unseasonal Rain Likely in Gujarat After January 22

Weather conditions across Ahmedabad and the rest of Gujarat are likely to change after January 22, with the possibility of unseasonal rain in several regions, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Although no rainfall is expected in the immediate future across Gujarat, Saurashtra-Kutch and the Union Territories of Diu, Daman and Dadra & Nagar Haveli, skies are likely to remain cloudy at many places, indicating the chances of light showers later.

In Ahmedabad, partly cloudy conditions are expected to persist. The city recorded a maximum temperature of 27.7°C, slightly 0.1°C above normal, while the minimum temperature stood at 14.8°C, around 2.9°C higher than average. The minimum temperature is expected to remain near 15°C over the next few days. IMD has predicted a gradual rise of 2 to 3°C in minimum temperatures during the next four days, followed by stable conditions.

However, weather experts have advised farmers to remain alert as conditions could change rapidly. Between January 22 and 26, parts of North Gujarat, Kutch, West Saurashtra and North Saurashtra may receive unseasonal rainfall due to the combined effect of a western disturbance, cyclonic circulation and a low-pressure system. Districts such as Sabarkantha and Mehsana may witness rainfall, while Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar could experience cloudy skies along with cold winds.

The impact of the unseasonal rain is expected to be strongest on January 23 and 24. After the system weakens and moves away, a strong cold wave is likely to return, with severe cold conditions expected in early February.

Over the past 24 hours, Amreli recorded the lowest minimum temperature in the state at 12°C, followed by Naliya at 13.2°C and Ahmedabad at 14.8°C.
