The Gujarat Technological University (GTU) has renamed at least nine academic programmes to align their titles with guidelines issued by the All-India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). The move aims to remove confusion and ensure regulatory compliance.
GTU announced the changes through an official circular. The revised course names are in line with norms set by AICTE, the Pharmacy Council of India and the university.
Registrar KN Kher said differences in course nomenclature were causing problems for students, especially during examinations and while applying for jobs or higher education. He explained that in some cases, the placement of words such as “Integrated” did not match AICTE’s format, leading to discrepancies on degree certificates.
“These differences created confusion when students appeared for exams or submitted their degrees for employment or further studies, as the course names did not match AICTE records,” Kher said.
Among the programmes renamed are Bachelor of Science (Information Technology) and Master of Science (Integrated), and Bachelor of Science (Computer Science) and Master of Science (Integrated) Computer Science. GTU said the revised titles will help students avoid administrative issues in the future.
