Girls Dominate Gold Medals at Gujarat University’s 74th Convocation

Girl students outshone their male counterparts at Gujarat University’s 74th annual convocation, securing a clear majority of gold medals. Of the total recipients, 63% were girls, while boys accounted for 37%.

Out of 199 students awarded gold medals, 126 were girls and 73 were boys. The convocation ceremony was held at the university’s Senate Hall on Monday, with Governor Devvrat Acharya presiding over the event. Addressing the graduates, the governor urged them to pursue success through hard work rather than shortcuts. He also highlighted the importance of organic farming, expressing concern over the increasing incidence of lifestyle diseases such as cancer and heart ailments due to unhealthy food habits and excessive use of chemicals in agriculture.

This year, Gujarat University awarded degrees to 40,245 students across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, marking a slight decline compared to previous years.

Among the top performers, six students earned between five and eight gold medals. Raveena, a law student, emerged as the highest achiever with eight gold medals, while Dhairya Makde, a postgraduate student of MPA, also received a gold medal for academic excellence.

Registrar Piyush Patel said the university conferred 341 gold medals on 199 meritorious students and awarded degrees to more than 40,000 students from various UG and PG faculties.
